Ingredients

  • Mung Beans 10 oz
  • Onion 1 piece
  • Tomato 1 piece
  • Bell pepper 1 piece
  • Garlic 1 head
  • Butter 1 tablespoon
  • Garam Masala 1 teaspoon
  • Ginger Root 1 teaspoon
  • Ground Black Pepper to taste
  • Turmeric ½ teaspoon
  • Salt to taste

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1

In a small pot, pour in the mung beans and add 2 cups of water. Bring to a boil over medium heat, then cover the pot, reduce the heat to low, and cook for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Next, you will need an additional 1-1.5 cups of boiling water, so please boil the required amount.

Step 2

Meanwhile, while the beans are cooking, dice the onion, tomato, and bell pepper. Grate the ginger root and garlic on a fine grater.

Step 3

In a skillet, melt the butter, add the onion, and sauté until translucent. Then add the diced tomato and bell pepper, along with the grated ginger and garlic. Season with spices and salt to taste. Simmer on low heat, covered, for 15 minutes and turn off the heat.

Step 4

After the mung beans are cooked, add 1-1.5 cups of water depending on the desired thickness. Generally, the thicker it is, the richer and tastier it becomes. Add the sautéed mixture and stir. If needed, add more salt. Blend slightly with an immersion blender and cook for another 10 minutes, then turn off the heat and let the soup rest a bit before serving. If desired, you can add warm cream for a smoother taste.
