Description
Indian Halwa
Ingredients
- Vegetable Oil 1 cup
- Semolina 2 cups
- Sugar 3 cups
- Water 4 cups
- Orange zest 1 tablespoon
- Orange juice concentrate 0 qt
- Raisins 10 oz
- Vanillin 0 oz
- Desiccated coconut 2 tablespoons
- Nuts 5 oz
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1
In a heavy-bottomed pot, heat the oil and add the semolina, stirring constantly. The color of the semolina can vary from golden to brown, with traditional halwa being brown.
Step 2
At the same time, prepare the syrup in another pot. Once the water boils, add the sugar. Stir until the sugar dissolves. Add the freshly squeezed juice of one orange and its zest to the syrup. Also add the shredded coconut and raisins.
Step 3
Once the semolina has darkened, you can pour in the syrup. BE CAREFUL! Covering the pot with a lid as a shield, stir until all the liquid evaporates.
Step 4
The halwa is ready when it pulls away from the sides of the pot. Add the nuts, slightly chopped.
Step 5
You can transfer it to a decorative mold (for puddings/cakes) and let it cool. After it has completely cooled, transfer it to a serving dish from the mold.
Step 6
You can sprinkle cinnamon, shredded coconut, or more raisins on top for decoration.
