Homemade Bagels

Ingredients

  • Olive Oil 2 tablespoons
  • Salt ½ teaspoon
  • Water ½ cup
  • All-purpose flour 2 cups
  • Sugar 1 tablespoon
  • Dry yeast 1 teaspoon
  • Honey 1 teaspoon
  • Sesame Seeds to taste

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1

Mix the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.

Step 2

Add 2 tablespoons of olive oil.

Step 3

Add water and knead until a uniform dough forms.

Step 4

Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover with a damp towel, and let it rise in a warm place (the dough should double in size).

Step 5

Divide the dough into six to seven equal balls, roll each ball into a rope, and tightly seal the edges.

Step 6

Cover the bagels with a damp towel and let them rest for another 20 minutes.

Step 7

Heat water with honey in a pot. Drop the bagels into boiling water for 30 seconds.

Step 8

Remove the bagels and let them dry slightly on a paper towel.

Step 9

Dip the dried bagels in sesame seeds (poppy seeds can also be used) and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

Step 10

Bake in a preheated oven at 430°F (428 degrees Fahrenheit) until golden brown.

Step 11

Cool on a wire rack.
