Description

Greek pie with rice and potatoes (Patatopita)

Ingredients

  • Salad Potatoes 0 lbs
  • Rice 1 cup
  • Chocolate eggs 2 pieces
  • Salt 1 teaspoon
  • Olive Oil 1 cup
  • Ground Nutmeg ½ teaspoon
  • Dried Rosemary ½ teaspoon
  • Ground Black Pepper to taste
  • Milk 2 cups

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1

Break one egg into a bowl, beat with salt and 3 tablespoons of olive oil, then add flour and knead into an elastic dough. Roll it into a ball, cover with a napkin, and let it rest for 15-20 minutes.

Step 2

Wash the potatoes, peel them, and boil until tender (about 20-40 minutes depending on the size of the potatoes), then drain the water.

Step 3

Rinse the rice, boil for 7-10 minutes, and drain in a colander.

Step 4

Heat the milk.

Step 5

Pour the hot milk over the potatoes and mash thoroughly into a puree. Add the rice, ¾ cup of olive oil, nutmeg, and mint, season with salt and pepper to taste.

Step 6

Grease a round baking dish with 2 tablespoons of olive oil.

Step 7

Roll the dough into a large round sheet and place it in the dish so that the edges hang over slightly.

Step 8

Add the filling. Fold the overhanging edges of the dough inward.

Step 9

Beat the remaining egg with 1 tablespoon of oil and brush the pie. Optionally, sprinkle with sesame seeds.

Step 10

Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and bake the patatopita for 30-40 minutes.
