Description
Gingerbread House for Christmas
Ingredients
- Wheat Flour 4 cups
- Butter 5 oz
- Honey 5 tablespoons
- Brown Sugar 5 oz
- Baking Powder 1 teaspoon
- Whole egg 4 pieces
- Ground Cinnamon 1 teaspoon
- Ground clove 1 teaspoon
- Ground clove 1 teaspoon
- Cardamom 1 teaspoon
- Dark rum 1 tablespoon
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1
Mix the spices and let them sit together for a couple of minutes.
Step 2
Sift the flour and mix it with the baking powder, you can do this twice.
Step 3
Combine all ingredients except the flour and baking powder mixture, and mix thoroughly.
Step 4
Add the flour and baking powder mixture to the other ingredients and knead the dough by hand for about 12-15 minutes. The dough should be firm and elastic.
Step 5
Well-kneaded dough should be rolled into a ball, wrapped in plastic wrap, and placed in the refrigerator for at least 3 hours (preferably overnight).
Step 6
Make templates for the house parts, including: walls, roof, door. The specified amount of ingredients is enough for: a house, a chimney, a door, and three Christmas trees.
Step 7
Cut out the templates from paper and check their compatibility.
Step 8
Roll out the dough to a thickness of 1 cm, place the paper templates on the dough, and cut out the parts with a sharp knife. If you plan to make window openings, cut the parts directly on the baking sheet; otherwise, it's hard to transfer them carefully.
Step 9
Bake for about 15 minutes at 355°F.
Step 10
Glue the parts together with icing (egg white with sugar), melted caramels (in a water bath), or melted chocolate (in a water bath).
Step 11
Decorate with icing before gluing, and with other decorations afterward.
Step 12
Assemble according to the scheme: 3 walls, then the fourth wall, let dry for about half an hour, then the roof parts (one at a time), also let dry, then the chimney (if desired).
Step 13
Decorate with candies, candied fruits, caramel, powdered sugar, nuts, and anything else you like. You can make a small hole in the back of the house (0.5*0.5 cm) and hide a string of lights inside for a festive glow.
