Gingerbread House

Ingredients

  • Wheat Flour 10 oz
  • Coarsely Ground Rye Flour 5 oz
  • Honey 5 oz
  • Butter 5 oz
  • Sour Cream 5 oz
  • Sugar 10 oz
  • Chocolate eggs 2 pieces
  • Liquid Glucose 1 tablespoon
  • Lemon ½ piece
  • Powdered Sugar 5 oz
  • Ground Cinnamon 1 teaspoon
  • Grated Ginger Root 1 teaspoon

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1

Place 100 grams of butter, 100 grams of sugar, and honey in a saucepan over low heat. Stir until the sugar completely dissolves.

Step 2

Sift the flour, add cinnamon and ginger, and mix well.

Step 3

Add half of the flour to the saucepan and mix. Add sour cream, 1 egg, and 1 yolk. Quickly mix everything to prevent the eggs from curdling.

Step 4

Then, add the remaining flour and knead a thick dough.

Step 5

Roll out the dough and cut out the necessary house parts using a stencil.

Step 6

Carefully transfer all parts onto a greased baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake at 340°F until done.

Step 7

For the caramel, place 180 grams of sugar and glucose in a saucepan over low heat, stirring constantly. The finished caramel should be transparent.

Step 8

Pour a little caramel into square molds greased with butter. These will be the windows for the house.

Step 9

Attach the house parts using caramel. For this, dip each joining part into the caramel and press it against the part it should stick to. First, attach the two roof parts together, let the caramel set, and then attach the roof on top of the house. The cooled window panes are also attached with caramel (if it hardens during assembly, it can be warmed on very low heat).

Step 10

For the icing, mix the powdered sugar with one egg white and lemon juice; beat with a mixer until peaks form. Continue beating for about 5–7 minutes.

Step 11

Place the icing in a piping bag and decorate the house with snow. After a day, when the icing has set, you can place a small candle in the center of the house and light it during the celebration.
