Gingerbread Cookies with Icing
Baking and Desserts • Bulgarian
Description
A must-have for long winter holidays. Gingerbread cookies should be baked in bulk, as they will come in handy in any case: as gifts for friends in a beautiful box, as ornaments for the Christmas tree, and to accompany coffee, tea, or a cup of eggnog. It's a great idea to keep children occupied during a family gathering by hosting a cooking workshop where they can shape and decorate these cookies. Prepare colorful icing, make plenty of gingerbread dough, and get started. If you bake a lot of cookies in advance, you'll have them throughout the holidays and beyond.
Ingredients
- Light Molasses 5 oz
- Sugar 0 oz
- Butter 5 oz
- Chicken Egg 1 piece
- Wheat Flour 10 oz
- Baking Powder 0 oz
- Grated Ginger Root 0 oz
- Cinnamon 0 oz
- Salt a pinch
- Egg white 1 piece
- Powdered Sugar 10 oz
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1
Prepare the necessary ingredients.
Step 2
In a small saucepan, heat the molasses, then add the sugar and butter, stirring until smooth. Let it cool.
Step 3
Beat the egg. Sift together the flour, baking powder, salt, and spices. Combine everything together.
Step 4
Cover the dough and let it rest overnight.
Step 5
Roll out the dough thinly. It will be easier to divide it into several portions and roll them out one at a time.
Step 6
Cut out the cookies using cookie cutters. Bake in a preheated oven at 355°F for 6–8 minutes.
Step 7
Mix the egg white with powdered sugar using a fork or mixer until thick.
Step 8
Place the glaze in a piping bag. Stand the bag in a container lined with a towel to prevent the glaze from leaking out and drying out.
Step 9
Decorate the cooled cookies.
Step 10
Serve.
