Garlic Bread with Herbs
Baking and Desserts • Russian
Description
Slices of bread that have been buttered seem to separate from each other, so sometimes this bread doesn't even need to be cut.
Ingredients
- Chicken Egg 4 pieces
- Margarine 10 oz
- Dry yeast 0 oz
- Sugar ½ cup
- Milk 10 fl oz
- Wheat Flour 4 cups
- Herbs to taste
- Garlic 2 cloves
- Butter 0 oz
- Hard Cheese 5 oz
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1
Mix the yeast, warm milk, sugar, and a cup of flour. Leave in a warm place.
Step 2
Heat the margarine in a water bath until it becomes completely soft.
Step 3
Whisk the eggs with a whisk.
Step 4
When the dough has risen in volume, add the margarine and whisked eggs, gradually adding flour to knead a soft dough — it should be very soft (to prevent sticking, it's better to grease the table with vegetable oil — avoid adding extra flour). Cover the dough with a towel and leave it in a warm place to rise.
Step 5
Meanwhile, grate the cheese, add chopped herbs and garlic to it.
Step 6
Heat the butter or margarine in a water bath until it becomes liquid.
Step 7
Line a baking dish with parchment paper or lightly grease it with oil.
Step 8
When the dough has risen well, you can start the most interesting part. Roll out part of the dough into a layer about 1 cm thick, sprinkle with the cheese + herbs + garlic mixture, roll it into a log, and then cut it into pieces, as we usually cut logs. Flatten each piece with your hands and brush it all over with a brush dipped in oil, or simply dip it in oil. Place in the baking dish and do the same with the remaining dough. Once the dish is filled, cover it with a towel or foil and place it in a warm place for the final rise.
Step 9
Preheat the oven to 390°F and place the bread inside. Check readiness with a skewer. The time required depends on the thickness of your pieces and the size of the dish, so it may vary.
Step 10
Then let the bread cool on a rack, so it won't be 'wet' inside, and start enjoying.
