Description

As a mold, as strange as it may sound, you can use aluminum cans — those without a rubberized inner layer and opened so that there are no uneven edges. They should be greased with a thin layer of vegetable oil and heated in the oven for 4–5 minutes. Once cooled, grease the molds with melted or butter. Alternatively, you can use regular store-bought paper molds.

Ingredients

  • Wheat Flour 4½ cups
  • Milk 2 cups
  • Chocolate eggs 6 pieces
  • Butter 10 oz
  • Sugar 1 cup
  • Raisins to taste
  • Dry yeast 0 oz
  • Spices to taste
  • Walnuts 3 pieces
  • Salt ½ teaspoon

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1

Mash the fresh yeast, adding a spoonful of sugar, dissolve in half a cup of warm milk, and place in a warm spot to rise.

Step 2

Sift 2 cups of flour into a pot, pour in boiling milk, and mix. When the mixture cools slightly, add the risen yeast, stir, cover with a towel, and place in a warm spot to rise.

Step 3

Once the dough rises, deflate it and add the yolks that have been ground with sugar until white. Mix well, adding half a teaspoon of salt, and knead, adding another 2 cups of flour.

Step 4

Then pour in a cup of warm melted butter and first mix with a spoon, then knead the dough by hand. If necessary, add more flour. Knead until the dough no longer sticks to your hands. It should have the consistency of thick sour cream.

Step 5

Finally, add spices to the dough — to taste. Cover with a towel and place in a warm spot to rise again.

Step 6

As soon as the dough rises well, deflate it, knead for 1–2 minutes, and pour into molds to one-third full. Cover with a towel and let it rise again until it reaches ¾ of the volume.

Step 7

Place the molds in a preheated oven and bake for 20–30 minutes — depending on the size.

Step 8

Remove the molds from the oven, cover with a towel, and let cool. Only remove the kulich from the mold when they are almost cool. Dust the finished kulich with sugar-nut powder: crush 2–3 pieces of sugar with 2–3 walnuts or hazelnuts in a mortar. Lightly grease the top of the kulich with butter, sprinkle with this powder, or cover with icing.
