Drunken Pear with Cranberries
Baking and Desserts • Italian
Description
Tender, juicy flesh, the intoxicating aroma of red wine, and a deep, rich color make this dish an exquisite and promising conclusion to a romantic dinner. The recipe for drunken pears can have many variations, but it is always simple. My special touch was the cranberries, which, along with the red wine, gave the dish a completely fantastic color and flavor. Taste the passion. The choice of spices is entirely up to you. The main thing is not to overdo it. Cloves, for example, have a very strong aroma. On the other hand, both cloves and cinnamon pair wonderfully with red wine. Allspice will add a hint of spicy warmth. Together, all the flavors and aromas excite and warm. The warmth will spread through your body with each new bite. The choice of alcohol is also your responsibility. I recommend using a wine that you would drink. If you're in the mood, add 50 ml of your favorite strong drink to the wine. Don't forget about common sense; taste still matters immensely.
Ingredients
- Pears 4 pieces
- Rice Sweet Wine 15 fl oz
- Cranberry 5 oz
- Sugar 5 oz
- Cinnamon 0 oz
- Allspice berries to taste
- Ground clove to taste
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1
Heat a heavy-bottomed pot over medium heat. Add the sugar and spices. Without stirring, wait for the sugar to melt, but do not let it darken or turn into caramel. Add the cranberries. Gently shake the pot to mix everything. Cook for 5–7 minutes until the cranberries release their juice.
Step 2
Pour in the red wine and add the peeled pears. Without bringing to a boil, cook for 25–30 minutes. You can check the doneness of the fruit by piercing it with a thin knife.
Step 3
Before serving, cut the pears in half. Then, make cuts in each half, starting an inch below the stem and ending at the wider part of the fruit. Arrange the drunken pears on plates, fanning them out. Drizzle with the syrup, which can be slightly reduced if desired.
