Description

Classic onion soup

Ingredients

  • Onion 4 pieces
  • Sugar ½ teaspoon
  • Salt ½ teaspoon
  • Olive Oil 2 tablespoons
  • Campbell's Beef Broth 4 cups
  • Ground Black Pepper to taste
  • Croutons 15 oz
  • Cheshire Cheese 1 cup
  • Brandy 3 tablespoons

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1

Pour olive oil into a pot and heat over medium heat.

Step 2

Add all the sliced onions, along with salt, sugar, and pepper, and cook until they become translucent.

Step 3

Reduce the heat to the lowest setting and let it simmer for about 1.5 hours, stirring occasionally. It is ready when the onion mixture has caramelized and turned golden-brown.

Step 4

Add all the broth and brandy, stirring to bring to a boil so that the broth mixes and turns brownish.

Step 5

Remove from heat, as the soup is almost ready.

Step 6

Pour the soup into ceramic bowls or pots and top each with a thick slice of previously toasted bread (grilled or toasted), generously sprinkled with cheese, and place under the broiler for 5 minutes until the cheese melts and turns golden-brown.
