Chicken Pie
Baking and Desserts • Icelandic
Description
Pies are the perfect gastronomic building blocks. They can be made from puff pastry, yeast dough, shortcrust, chopped dough, or any kind of dough (sometimes even mashed potatoes can serve as the base), and the filling options are only limited by your imagination. Making a pie with this recipe is incredibly simple: there's no need to painstakingly knead the dough or shape it into intricate forms — just mix all the pie ingredients in one bowl and transfer the mixture to a baking dish.
Ingredients
- Chicken fillet 15 oz
- Onion 1 head
- Bacon 5 oz
- Garlic 2 cloves
- Chicken Egg 5 pieces
- Cream 5 fl oz
- Wheat Flour 5 oz
- Cheshire Cheese 5 oz
- Herb Bouquet to taste
- Salt to taste
- Ground Black Pepper to taste
- Olive Oil to taste
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1
Season the chicken with salt and pepper, and brush it with olive oil. Roast in an oven preheated to 355°F (350 degrees Fahrenheit) for 25–30 minutes. Then let it cool slightly, slice, and shred the meat into strands.
Step 2
Chop the bacon, and finely dice the onion and garlic. In a skillet, first fry the bacon, then add the onion and sauté until golden brown. Add the garlic and sauté for 20–30 seconds until fragrant, then remove from heat.
Step 3
Whisk the eggs with salt, then mix in the cream and flour.
Step 4
Mix the meat with the onion and grated cheese, add the herbs and combine with the dough. Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish. Bake for 35–40 minutes in an oven preheated to 375°F.
