Cheese Spirals

Ingredients

  • Wheat Flour 10 oz
  • Sugar 1 teaspoon
  • Salt 1 teaspoon
  • Margarine 5 oz
  • Dry yeast 0 oz
  • Milk 5 fl oz
  • Whole egg 2 pieces
  • Spices to taste
  • Hard Cheese 5 oz

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1

In a bowl, combine the crumbled yeast, sugar, salt, softened margarine, and gradually pour in the warm milk while kneading the dough. Shape the dough into a ball, cover it with a cloth, and place it in a warm spot to rise (until it doubles in size).

Step 2

Roll out the dough into a rectangle about 4 mm thick. Mix the egg yolk with 2 tablespoons of water and brush half of the dough with it.

Step 3

Grate the cheese, set aside a portion, and sprinkle it over the egg-washed half of the dough, then cover this half with the other. After that, roll the dough out again into a rectangle about 4 mm thick and cut it into strips approximately 2.5 cm wide and 15 cm long.

Step 4

Brush the strips with the remaining egg yolk, sprinkle them with cheese and spices (such as pepper, salt, thyme, sesame seeds, etc.), and twist them into spirals.

Step 5

Place the spirals on a greased baking sheet and bake in a preheated oven at 435°F (gas mark 4) for 15–20 minutes.
