
Candied Chestnuts

Ingredients
- Peeled chestnuts 20 oz
- Sugar 20 oz
- Water 2 cups
- Rum 0 fl oz
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1
Peel the chestnuts from their shells and thin skins.
Step 2
Pour boiling water over them and boil until softened. The chestnuts should retain their shape.
Step 3
Prepare the syrup with rum and vanilla. To do this, bring the water to a boil, add the sugar, bring to a boil again, and simmer for 10 minutes.
Step 4
Add the chestnuts to the syrup and cook for 30 minutes. Then turn off the heat for a while.
Step 5
Put the chestnuts back on the heat for another 30 minutes. Continue until the chestnuts become translucent.
Step 6
Transfer the chestnuts and syrup to a glass container, add the rum, and let cool.
