Description

Cabbage Pie with Tomato Sauce

Ingredients

  • Butter 0 oz
  • White Cabbage 5 lbs
  • Serrano Chili 5 oz
  • Milk 3 tablespoons
  • Chocolate eggs 3 pieces
  • Salt to taste
  • Tomatoes 0 lbs
  • Safflower Oil 5 tablespoons
  • Sugar 1 teaspoon

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1

Remove the outer leaves of the cabbage, cut the head into 4 parts, and remove the core, then slice the leaves into strips about 2 cm wide. Rinse well.

Step 2

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil, add the cabbage, submerge it with a spoon, let the water come to a boil again, reduce the heat, cover the pot, and cook for 30 minutes until the cabbage is tender. Drain and let it dry in a colander.

Step 3

Prepare the tomato sauce. Heat the oil in a pan, add peeled and finely chopped tomatoes, and cook over medium heat for 15 minutes, mashing with a spatula and stirring.

Step 4

Let it cool slightly, then blend until smooth, add sugar to the puree, mix, and set aside.

Step 5

Grease a baking dish with oil. Melt the remaining butter in a pan, add the cabbage and finely chopped ham, and cook over medium heat, stirring for 5 minutes. Remove the pan from the heat. Beat the eggs with the milk and stir into the cabbage.

Step 6

Pour the mixture into the greased dish, place the dish in a deep baking tray, and pour boiling water into the tray — about halfway up the sides of the dish. Place the entire setup in a preheated oven and bake for 1 hour at 320°F.

Step 7

Turn off the oven, open the door, and leave it in that position for 8 minutes. Then remove it from the oven, invert the dish onto a serving plate, pour with tomato sauce, and serve immediately.
