Description
Dal Makhani is a hearty stew made from legumes with a variety of spices and cream, being one of the main dishes of Indian and Nepali cuisine. Traditionally, it is prepared with black mung beans, but regular mung beans can be used as well.
Ingredients
- Mung Beans 15 oz
- Vegetable Oil 0 fl oz
- Ginger-Garlic Paste 0 oz

- Mild Chili Spice 1 tablespoon
- Tomato Puree 15 oz
- Butter 5 oz
- Cream 22% 5 fl oz
- Salt to taste
- Sugar to taste
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1
Prepare the necessary ingredients.
Step 2
Drain the soaked mung beans and transfer them to a pot.
Step 3
Add vegetable oil and bring to a boil.
Step 4
Then lower the heat, cover, and simmer for about 4 hours, until the beans are tender.
Step 5
Add ginger and garlic paste, ground chili, tomato puree, and salt to the cooked mung beans. Continue to cook, stirring and mashing the beans with a wooden spatula, for one hour.
Step 6
Pour in the cream.
Step 7
Add the butter and wait for it to melt.
Step 8
Stir.
Step 9
Season to taste with salt and sugar.
Step 10
Serve.
