Biscotti
Baking and Desserts • Italian
Description
The word 'biscotti' means 'twice baked': first, loaves of rich dough are baked, and then they are sliced and dried. In this form, the cookies can be stored for up to 4 months. Biscotti are enjoyed by dipping them in beverages. Italians and Spaniards prefer dessert wine, while Americans favor coffee, but pairing them with milk, cocoa, or even fruit compote works just as well.
Ingredients
- Wheat Flour 10 oz
- Almond 5 oz
- Sugar 5 oz
- Chicken Egg 2 pieces
- Baking Powder 1 tablespoon
- Butter 0 oz
- Vanilla extract 1 tablespoon
- Salt ¼ spoons
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1
Prepare the necessary ingredients.
Step 2
Place the softened butter in the mixing bowl.
Step 3
Add the eggs and vanilla to the butter. Beat everything together.
Step 4
In another bowl, sift the flour and mix it with the sugar, baking powder, salt, and nuts.
Step 5
Make a well in the dry ingredients and pour in the egg mixture, then mix with a spatula.
Step 6
Then, transfer the dough onto a work surface and knead it, adding a bit more flour if necessary. Let it rest for 15 minutes.
Step 7
Divide the dough into two equal parts and shape them into two logs about 30 cm long. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, pressing down slightly to flatten them. Bake in a preheated oven at 355°F for 25 minutes.
Step 8
Remove the bars from the oven and let them cool for about 15 minutes.
Step 9
Lower the oven temperature to 300°F. Use a bread knife to slice the loaves at an angle into 1 cm thick pieces. Transfer to a baking sheet and place in the oven for 15 minutes.
Step 10
Then flip each crouton and bake for another 15 minutes.
