Description
Baklava with powdered sugar
Ingredients
- Wheat Flour 4 glasses
- Milk 1 tablespoon
- Chicken Egg 4 pieces
- Salt to taste
- Ghee 5 oz
- Dry yeast 0 oz
- Nuts 3 glasses
- Powdered Sugar 2 glasses
- Vanillin a pinch
- Saffron 0 oz
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1
Heat the milk. Dissolve the yeast, then add 2 eggs, half of the melted butter, salt, and saffron. Mix everything well, then add flour and knead the dough. Let it rest for about 1 to 1.5 hours. After that, divide the dough into 12 pieces, with 2 of them being larger than the others.
Step 2
Pass the nuts through a meat grinder and mix them with a cup of powdered sugar, vanilla, and saffron.
Step 3
Roll out one of the large pieces of dough to a thickness of half a millimeter, place it in a deep skillet, and brush it with oil. Roll out another piece of dough, place it on top of the previous layer, brush it with oil, add the filling in a thickness of 3–4 millimeters, and continue layering until the top. The final layer will be the second large piece of dough.
Step 4
Then cut the baklava into diamond shapes measuring 10x4 centimeters, brush with egg yolk, and place a hazelnut or almond in the center of each diamond. Bake for 40–45 minutes at 180–390°F. Meanwhile, prepare a syrup by mixing one cup of powdered sugar with one cup of hot water. Pour the hot syrup over the baked baklava and return it to the oven for another 7 minutes.
