Baked Pears in Sugar Glaze
Ingredients
- Pears 7 pieces
- Rum 3 tablespoons
- Dried cranberries with sugar 2 tablespoons
- Light Raisins, Seedless 2 tablespoons
- Brown Sugar 2 tablespoons
- Chopped almonds 2 tablespoons
- Ground Cinnamon 1 teaspoon
- Ground Nutmeg ¼ teaspoon
- Butter 4 tablespoons
- Grated Ginger Root 0 oz
- Sugar ½ cup
- Lemon 1 piece
- Orange zest 1 piece
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1
Peel and finely chop 1 pear. Place it in a small saucepan, add rum, currants, raisins, brown sugar, peeled and chopped almonds, ¼ teaspoon of cinnamon, nutmeg, minced ginger, and the zest and juice of the lemon and orange; bring to a boil. Reduce heat and cook, stirring, until the mixture is soft, about 15 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool.
Step 2
Preheat the oven to 355°F.
Step 3
Grease a baking dish with butter. In a separate bowl, mix the remaining cinnamon and ½ cup of regular sugar.
Step 4
Using a small knife, spiral peel the pears. Carefully use a melon baller to scoop out the centers of the pears from the bottom. Divide the filling among the pears and place them in the baking dish. Brush the pears with butter and sprinkle with the cinnamon-sugar mixture. Bake until soft, about 40 minutes.
Step 5
Let cool for 10 minutes before serving.
