Description

If you don't have sherry, you can substitute it with brandy, rum, or whiskey. You can also simply bake the apples halved without anything, and then top the finished apples with a mixture of nuts, raisins, and honey.

Ingredients

  • Honey 4 tablespoons
  • Apple 4 pieces
  • Walnuts 5 oz
  • Sherry 0 fl oz
  • Raisins 0 oz
  • Citrus Zest Mix 1 teaspoon
  • Cinnamon a pinch

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1

Soak the raisins in sherry for at least 15 minutes, preferably longer (it all depends on how quickly you need to prepare the dish).

Step 2

Preheat the oven to 355°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 3

Chop the nuts into small pieces with a knife or crush them in a mortar.

Step 4

Mix the nuts with the raisins (drain the sherry beforehand), drizzle with honey, and stir. Add the grated lemon zest.

Step 5

Cut the apples in half and remove the core. To ensure the halves are stable and nothing spills out, carefully cut a small amount off the bottom of the apples.

Step 6

Place the apples on the baking sheet, sprinkle with cinnamon, and put a spoonful of the mixture into each apple (i.e., evenly distribute the mixture among the apples).

Step 7

Bake in the oven until done. Do not set a high temperature — they will burn. I baked them for 40 minutes, as I like very soft, puree-like apples. Therefore, adjust the doneness of your apples by checking with a toothpick.

Step 8

Serve with a scoop of ice cream and mint leaves. You can also drizzle with yogurt.
