Ingredients
- Milk 4 glasses
- Whole egg 6 pieces
- Vanilla Pod 1 piece
- Sugar 1 glass
- Butter 5 oz
- Apple 5 pieces
- Brown Sugar ¾ glasses
- Ground Cinnamon 1½ spoons
- Ground Nutmeg ¼ spoons
- Meyer Lemon Juice 0 fl oz
- Coarse Salt ¼ spoons
- Chicken Egg 3 pieces
- Heavy cream 1½ glasses
- Vanillin 2 spoons
- French Baguette 1 piece
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1
Whisk a quarter cup of sugar with the egg yolks in a saucepan, then add 2 cups of milk and a vanilla pod. Bring to a boil and, stirring constantly, cook over low heat for ten minutes until thickened. Then strain and let cool.
Step 2
In a cast-iron skillet, sauté the quartered apples in butter for about ten minutes. Add 1/4 cup of brown sugar, spices, and lemon juice. Allow the mixture to caramelize, then let it cool.
Step 3
Mix all the remaining sugar, salt, eggs, milk, cream, and vanilla. Carefully place the slices of baguette between the apple wedges. Pour the egg mixture over the top and let it sit for about twenty minutes. Place the skillet in the oven and bake for approximately thirty-five minutes at 375°F. Let cool and serve with vanilla sauce.
