Store in an airtight container at room temperature for no more than 3 weeks.

Ingredients

  • Star anise 2 teaspoons
  • Sugar 1 cup
  • Butter 5 oz
  • Chopped almonds 5 oz
  • Orange Blossom Water 2 tablespoons
  • Vanilla extract 1 teaspoon
  • Almond ½ teaspoon
  • Toasted Sesame ¼ cup
  • Wheat Flour 2½ cups
  • Farm fresh eggs 4 pieces
  • Baking Powder 1½ teaspoons
  • Salt ¼ teaspoon
  • Water 1 tablespoon

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1

Mix the flour, baking powder, and salt.

Step 2

In a large bowl, beat the sugar and butter. Add 3 eggs, chopped almonds, orange blossom water, anise, sesame seeds, vanilla extract, and almond extract, and mix thoroughly.

Step 3

Gradually add the flour to the mixture and mix with a mixer on low speed. Cover the bowl with the dough and refrigerate for 1 hour.

Step 4

Preheat the oven to 375°F.

Step 5

With wet hands, place the dough into two narrow bread baking pans. Lightly beat 1 egg in a bowl and brush it over the dough. Sprinkle sesame seeds on top (1 tablespoon).

Step 6

Bake until lightly golden brown for about 30 minutes. Then, use a knife to separate from the sides of the pan and let cool for 15 minutes.

Step 7

Slice the loaves into pieces (2 cm wide) and place them on a clean baking sheet. Bake in the oven for another 20–25 minutes. Allow to cool completely before serving.
