Waldorf Salad
Salads • American
Description
The second most recognizable salad on the world menu after Caesar Salad. It was created in a New York hotel in 1896. The original recipe calls for pecans instead of walnuts, but the difference is minimal. Pecans are a bit more refined, but that refinement is still not noticeable under the layers of sour cream and mayonnaise.
Ingredients
- Cherry 5 oz
- Mayonnaise 5 oz
- Sour Cream 5 oz
- Sugar to taste
- Meyer Lemon Juice 2 spoons
- Green Apples 2 pieces
- Celery salt 15 oz
- Merlot Grapes 5 oz
- Walnuts 0 oz
- Salt to taste
- Ground Black Pepper to taste
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1
In a deep bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise (which can be made from scratch), sour cream, and lemon juice. Taste the sauce and add sugar if desired. In the same bowl, grate the celery root on a coarse grater (after peeling it), dice the apples (after removing their green skin), and add halved grapes and cherries.
Step 2
Season everything with salt and pepper, sprinkle with roughly chopped walnuts, and serve with white wine.
