Milk Kissel
Beverages • European
Description
Another unexpected and forgotten option by many is milk kissel. Here’s one piece of advice: the milk should be very tasty, not store-bought, but from a local farm.
Ingredients
- Milk 30 fl oz
- Sugar 5 oz
- Corn Starch 2 tablespoons
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1
Pour 720 ml of milk into a saucepan, bring to a boil, and add sugar. Dissolve cornstarch in 240 ml of cold milk or boiled water, pour it into the boiling milk, and, stirring constantly, simmer the kissel for 5 minutes over low heat.
Step 2
For flavor, you can add vanilla, 4–5 drops of almond essence, or grated zest from a lemon or orange to the hot kissel and mix well. Pour the hot kissel into cups and let it cool.
Step 3
Before serving, you can turn the kissel out of the cups onto small plates. Kissel made from soy or malt milk can be prepared in the same way.
