  • Gruyère cheese 0 oz
  • Chicken Egg 1 piece
  • White bread 5 pieces
  • Olive Oil 5 fl oz
  • Salt to taste
  • Ground Black Pepper to taste

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1

In a small saucepan, combine the milk and butter and bring to a boil. Add the flour and cook, stirring to avoid lumps. When the mixture becomes thick and smooth, remove it from the heat and let it cool. Then stir in the grated cheese. Once the mixture is just slightly warm, add the egg and mix well. Season with salt to taste.

Step 2

Spread a small amount of the cheese mixture on the bread, trim the crusts, and cut each slice diagonally to create two triangles.

Step 3

Heat the olive oil in a heavy-bottomed pan, place several slices of bread with the filling side down, and cook until they are golden brown. Then carefully remove them and place them in a warm dish or a preheated oven to keep the canapés warm while you fry the next batch. Serve hot.
