Dried Fruit Compote with Spices
Beverages • Author's
Description
Please note that no sugar is added to the compote; it gains sweetness from the dried fruits. In case it is not sweet enough, you can add a couple of tablespoons of sugar. The key is not to overcook the compote but to let it steep. It turns out very delicious; my husband enjoyed it with whipped cream.
Ingredients
- Pitted Wild Apricots 5 oz
- Dried Apricots 5 oz
- Light Raisins, Seedless 5 oz
- Light Raisins, Seedless 5 oz
- Green Figs 5 oz
- Lemon 1 piece
- Oranges 2 pieces
- Cinnamon 2 pieces
- Ground clove 5 pieces
- Dried parsnip 5 oz
- Crabapples 20 oz
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1
Boil 2/3 of a 5-liter pot of water; once it boils, add the dried fruits, chop the larger pieces, and add 5 cloves and 2 cinnamon sticks (break them into smaller pieces with a knife).
Step 2
While the dried fruits are boiling, slice the apples and cut the oranges into rounds.
Step 3
Let the dried fruits boil for about 3 minutes, no more, then add the fresh fruits and squeeze in the lemon juice, also adding the remaining peel with the pulp into the pot.
Step 4
As soon as the apples float to the top, turn off the heat immediately and let it steep covered overnight.
Step 5
Serve chilled either straight or diluted 1:2 with dry red wine.
