Cypriot Tomato Salad
Salads • Mediterranean
Description
A close relative of the Italian Caprese, but with its own character. Its defining ingredients, alongside the tomatoes, are salty feta cheese, dried oregano, and — like the sound of a timpani — sesame oil, which gives the salad a roasted note and a nutty aftertaste. Traditionally, the salad is arranged on a plate in layers, with the tomatoes on the bottom and the cheese on top, making it easy to fork up the whole pyramid. However, you can skip the formalities and toss the salad in a bowl; this won't change the flavor.
Ingredients
- Tomatoes 4 pieces
- Sesame Oil 0 fl oz
- Red Wine Vinegar 1 tablespoon
- Dried Rosemary 2 spoons
- Flaky sea salt to taste
- Feta cheese 10 oz
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1
Slice the tomatoes into rounds and arrange them on a plate.
Step 2
Drizzle with sesame oil and vinegar, then sprinkle with salt and oregano.
Step 3
Slice the cheese and layer it over the tomatoes. Let the dish sit for 30 minutes to allow the tomatoes to absorb the spices and flavors.
