Cucumber Sandwiches
Sandwiches • British
Description
A timeless classic that requires simple yet high-quality ingredients. The cucumber and butter should be the very best.
Ingredients
- Cucumbers 20 oz
- Butter 0 oz
- Sourdough Bread 8 pieces
- Salt to taste
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1
Use a vegetable peeler to remove the skin from the cucumbers and discard it. Then continue to slice the flesh into thin strips, stopping before reaching the core.
Step 2
Place the cucumber strips in a colander to drain excess liquid. Sprinkle a little salt on the cucumbers to draw out any additional moisture.
Step 3
While the cucumbers are draining in the colander, spread a thin layer of butter on one side of all the slices of bread. The butter should be applied in a very thin layer, but it must cover all the pores of the bread's crumb.
Step 4
On half of the slices of bread, lay out strips of cucumber in a single layer, slightly overlapping them to avoid any gaps.
Step 5
Cover the sandwiches with the remaining slices of bread, placing them butter-side down. Using a sharp knife, trim the crusts off the sandwiches, then cut them into triangles by slicing diagonally twice.
