Compote of Fresh Apples and Mandarins
Beverages • European
Description
It's as simple as can be: apples and mandarins taken in nearly equal proportions, along with sugar. You can make this every day, especially when it's dark and cold outside.
Ingredients
- Apple 10 oz
- Mandarins 4 pieces
- Sugar ¾ cup
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1
Peel the mandarins, separate them into segments, and place them on a plate. Remove the white pith from the mandarin peel, and finely chop the outer layer (zest) into thin strips, then boil in a cup of water and strain.
Step 2
In a pot, add the sugar, pour in 2 cups of hot water, stir, add the zest, the peeled and chopped apples, and simmer gently for 10 minutes until the apples are soft.
Step 3
Place the cooled apples and mandarin segments into bowls and pour over the syrup.
