Description

To prepare achichuk, you will need very ripe tomatoes that yield a lot of juice and a very sharp knife. It is best to mix achichuk just before serving due to the abundance of juice released by the tomatoes.

Ingredients

  • Tomatoes 2 pieces
  • Spanish onions 1 head
  • Coarse Salt to taste
  • Herbs to taste

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1

Using the sharpest knife, slice the tomatoes into the thinnest translucent half-rings and quarters until you reach the stem.

Step 2

If you don't have a very sharp knife, a bread knife works best as it doesn't tear the tomato and allows for very thin slicing.

Step 3

Slice the onion into very thin half-rings as well.

Step 4

In a salad bowl, combine the tomatoes and onion, season with salt and pepper to taste.

Step 5

Top with finely chopped herbs of your choice (green onion, mint, cilantro).
